If you are unsure if it's an emergency, call 9-1-1. Explain your situation to the operator. 9-1-1 operators can speak many languages.

Durham Regional Police

For any non-emergencies, you can reach Durham Regional Police at 1-888-579-1520.

Medical emergencies

Fire safety and prevention

There are many ways to prevent fires. Test your home's smoke alarms once every month. Replace smoke alarm batteries and alarms every six months. The Ontario Fire Code requires a smoke alarm on every floor of the home and outside all sleeping areas.

Other fire safety tips:

  • Develop a home fire escape plan.
  • Do not overload electrical outlets.
  • Use appliances away from all flammable material.
