Safety at Work

Everyone in Ontario has the right to a safe workplace. Safety at work is an important and serious issue in Durham Region.  It is important that you know your rights as a worker in Ontario. 

Some safety issues occur in all workplaces. Others may be specific to certain jobs, trades or professions.

If you feel you are in an unsafe workplace, there are resources to help you.

Ministry of Labour

In Ontario, the Ministry of Labour creates policies for safety. One of these policies is the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).

WHMIS provides information on the safe use of hazardous materials.

WHMIS information is provided by:

• Product labels.
• Material safety data sheets (MSDS).
• Worker education programs.

Reporting an incident

Your workplace should have protocols in place for reporting an incident.

You can also report an incident to the Ministry of Labour.
