The SR&ED program is a federal tax incentive program to encourage Canadian businesses of all sizes and sectors to conduct research and development in Canada that will lead to new and improved or technologically improved processes and products. It is the largest single source of federal government support for industrial R&D. Tax credits for expenditures such as wages, materials, machinery, equipment and overhead are available to qualified businesses. Free public information sessions are available.

The National Research Council-Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) helps firms to develop technologies and successfully commercialize them in a global marketplace.  They do this through:

  • Advisory services
  • Funding
  • Networking and linkages
  • Youth employment program

As Canada’s premier innovation assistance program for SMEs, the NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) provides a range of both technical and business oriented advisory services along with potential financial support to growth-oriented Canadian small- and medium-sized enterprises.

NRC-IRAP helps small and medium sized firms develop new technology and products that have the potential to materially increase the firm's sales or employment.  Their Industrial Technology Advisors work with clients on-site to assess the client's needs and help to design solutions tailored to their business.
