Durham Region celebrates updated Durham Immigration Portal

Posted on Friday March 02, 2018

Whitby, Ont. – Durham Region’s Local Diversity and Immigration Partnership Council (LDIPC) today showcased the updated Durham Immigration Portal (www.durhamimmigration.ca). Originally launched in 2010, this collaborative, online resource for newcomers to Durham Region is also an integral tool for the agencies and organizations that support them. The updated Immigration Portal was funded with provincial support through the Municipal Immigration Information Online (MIIO) program.

“Newcomers are a vital and growing part of Ontario’s communities. They contribute to the social, economic and cultural enrichment of our province. Durham Region is investing in a bright future by supporting programs to help engage, support and integrate newcomers into our province so that they can thrive and excel.” -- Laura Albanese, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration

“Succeeding in the global economy means focusing on creating a strong, diverse talent pool. The Durham Immigration Portal is one way that we invite the best and brightest people from around the world to make Durham Region their home. It provides the tools and resources newcomers need to access critical information and contribute fully to the community.” -- Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and CEO

Working with a number of community partners, the Durham Immigration Portal has been rebuilt with more accessible and social media-friendly content and tools, ensuring that it continues to meet the needs of newcomers and community stakeholders.

Key features of the site include:

  • An interactive settlement services map
  • A searchable community events calendar
  • Mobile-friendly
  • Twitter and news feeds
  • Shareable content
  • Expanded content for francophone newcomers and international students

The redesigned site better aligns with the Region of Durham’s new website (durham.ca), has been modernized through a social media presence, renders on mobile devices, reaches francophone communities, international talent and appeals to international students.

Funding provided by the Government of Ontario.
