Description: Women’s Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre of Durham (WMRCC) is a charitable and community based women’s organization. Since its inception in 1993, we have been providing culturally sensitive supportive counselling, services and programs to women, youth and children from diverse cultural, racial and religious backgrounds. We believe that feminism, anti-racism/anti-oppression and social justice is the core values of the organization. We currently have openings for new board members and are looking for individuals from diverse backgrounds to join this grassroots organization.
Board of Directors offer leadership skills, and must have an understanding of violence against women and children including sensitivity on issues affecting newcomers, immigrant and racialized women and their families such as oppression and marginalization. Other necessary skills include knowledge and experience in program planning, evaluation, women’s issues, community development, administration, fundraising, marketing, legal systems, finance and public relations.
Board members serve a two-year term and are expected to serve on a committee; participate in fund-raising, attend board development trainings and board meetings once a month. New members participate in an orientation and training sessions.
